Your Reiki Treatment
How it Works
We are alive because energy is flowing through us. Energy flows
within the physical body though pathways. It also flows around us
in a field of energy called the aura. Energy nourishes the organs
and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions.
When this flow of energy is disrupted, it causes diminished function
in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The energy is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes
disrupted when we accept or hold onto, either consciously or
unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves.
These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the
energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force.
This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of
the physical body.
One way Reiki heals is by flowing through the affected parts of the energy
field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level
of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative
thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to
break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and
heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a
healthy and natural way.
Your Session
At the beginning of the session, the practitioner will discuss with
the client the client's level of comfort with touch. The client will
have choices from getting touched to not touched at all, depending on
trust level and comfort of the client. The client will be treated
laying on a massage table, seated, or in any other preferred comfortable
position. Both the front of the client and the back will be treated.
The hands of the practitioner might move slightly when
placed into a spot, in an effort to find the best placement. During the
session the client should feel free to talk and ask questions. Share
with your practitioner what is bothering you so they can pay extra
attention to these problems. You and your practitioner can even
develop a plan of how to tackle the problem best.
Your Reiki practitioner understands that they act as a mere catalyst in
the process of passing on Reiki energy to you, while using their hands.
During a standard session the hands are lightly placed on a set of
body areas, usually corresponding with the location of chakras (energy
centers). The Reiki energy flowing from the practitioner's hands is subtle and
will flow through your body to improve and balance you; physically,
mentally, emotionally, & spiritually. Everyone receives and
experiences Reiki differently, and there is no "right" or "wrong" way
to feel during the session. You may experience nothing, the jerking of
muscles, warm feelings of energy trying to find it's way, or emotions
of happiness or sadness. The intention of a Reiki treatment is to
nurture your highest good, and everything you feel is right for you.
Sometimes a client may experience a little physical and/or emotional
discomfort. This is because the energy is gently working to loosen
blockages that you may have developed over time. Reiki works to clear
your body of these blockages and cleanse you of toxins.
Like massage therapy, Reiki can release the body's pent-up toxins into
the bloodstream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed
from the system. At these times, people can briefly experience mild
symptoms like headaches or weakness. In addition, a "healing crisis" can
involve a release of pent up emotions they may have been blocked.
Do not be alarmed; these are good signs, meaning that the body is
cleansing as part of the healing process. If symptoms occur, it is a good
idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest.
Because Reiki is guided by Universal Energy, it can never do harm. It
always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the
effect that is appropriate for them. One never need worry about whether
to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful.
It is best if you relax your mind and the body as much as possible. Try
not to concentrate on "experiencing" the treatment, this may cause you
to tense up. We want you to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
It is perfectly natural and common to fall asleep during a treatment.
The Reiki energy is still working, so do not feel that if you sleep you
will "miss" anything.
After the session the effect of Reiki will continue and linger on for a
few days. You might not have noticed any earth shattering changes from
the treatment, but seem to simply feel some subtle un-definable
"happy energy" roaming through you. You may feel shifting in your body the
day after. You may remember your dreams much more vividly.
Know that the energy is working to promote your highest good.
Although the total time for a Reiki treatment varies depending on what the
client's needs are, a regular full hands-on Reiki treatment will last about
45 minutes to an hour.
